Directions to Civic Center

From points north of Ridgefield Park , proceed south on Teaneck Road .  After you cross over Route 80 continue south toward the next traffic light ( Mt. Vernon Street ). One block before the light, turn right onto Park Street (one way headed west).  The Civic Center is on the left side of the street in the second block between Hudson and the next street which is Euclid Avenue .

From points south of Ridgefield Park , proceed north on Teaneck Road to the light at Mt. Vernon Street .  Stay on Teaneck Road for one more block to Park Street and turn left.  The Civic Center is on the left side of the street in the second block (after you cross Hudson Street ).

Our annual Pot Luck Dinner party was hosted by Joan Vieni.  The food was excellent and the conversations stimulating.  A very brief business meeting was convened so that we could have the election of officers for 2002.

New Years Day was bright and sunny, but a bit on the chilly side.  The only soul brave enough to go paddling was John.  The rest of us retired to the diner on Mt Vernon Street to enjoy brunch.

Schedule for 2002

Trip Schedule

We decided to revisit our schedule in June to update it for the second half of the year.  We don’t have a date yet for the River Festival, nor do we have a clear definition of what our role will be.

Action:  Bruce is a member of the River Festival organizing committee and will report back to us.

Earth Day

We have been invited by the Ridgefield Park Environmental Commission to take part in the Earth Day celebration at the DPW Riverside Park on Saturday, April 27, 2002 from 9 am to 2 pm .  There will be music, canoe and boat rides as well as refreshments.  We will meet at the Club House at 8:30 that morning to set up.

Action:  We’ll need a large poster with information about the club with photos and handouts that include our trip schedule.

4^th of July Parade

We all had such a good time last summer at the Ridgefield Park July 4^th parade that we decided to do it again this year.  We decided we should focus on the fact that Wanda Canoe Club is at least 80 years old this year, based on the Men’s Point Trophy which dates back to 1922.  We know the club existed before that, but we don’t have any records to prove it.  We should probably have flyers with information about the club to hand out along the parade route.  And last but not least we should investigate getting more club tee shirts.

Action:  This will be an ongoing project throughout the spring.  Bruce volunteered to bring some sketches of possible float designs to the next meeting.
