Paddling Program

Wednesday evenings

We will be starting up our summer paddling program on May 29, 2002 .  Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by a parent and preferably be over the age of 12.

Youth

Joan Vieni discussed setting up a paddling program for youngsters 4 to 12 years old to take place at the Clubhouse on Saturdays starting in June.  This program will run from 9 to 11 AM on Saturday mornings and will require that a parent paddle with their child.  It will be limited to 12 families on a first come, first served basis.  Joan discussed this program with Ridgefield Park mayor, George Fosdick, during the Earth Day festivities.  We will see about running this program in conjunction with the Ridgefield Park Recreation Department.

Lake Sebago cabin

A new stove was purchased for $345.43 from Home Depot and taken to the lake by Warren and Stuart.  Because installation of this will be a major expense (estimated at $600) and we have to have approval from the Camp, we decided to wait a month before discussing the installation of this appliance and the heater we had previously purchased.

There was discussion about installing new sheet rock in the ceiling of the cabin.

Motion: Made by Stuart Alpart and seconded by Carole Baligh to authorize up to $100 for the purchase of sheet rock and foam insulation for the cabin roof.

Passed: unanimously.

A federal law passed in 1998 requires a new type of float system in all propane fuel tanks.  This will affect the gas grill at the lake since the old tank can’t be refilled.

Motion: Made by Helen Yeisley and seconded by Joan Vieni to authorize the expenditure of up to $60 for a new tank and gas for the cabin grill.

Passed: unanimously.

We previously scheduled a Clean-up day at the cabin for May 11.  Laura, Erik, Joan and Carole plan to meet at the lake at 9:30 AM for the work day.

Boat Use at the Lake

We discussed the use of club boats at the Lake by Wanda members during the summer.  One of the issues related to this is being able to secure the boats when they are left at the lake.  Racing boats will have to be adapted so that they can be locked to the Wanda rack.

Action: Warren Yeisley and Kim Sheridan to meet and decide which boats can be taken to the Lake .

Fourth of July Parade

Since Wanda Canoe Club has been in Ridgefield Park for 35 years and our Point Trophy was dedicated 80 years ago in 1922, can we incorporate this information into the float for the parade?  The suggestion was made to produce a banner for the event.

Action: None was adopted.
