Lake Sebago Square Dance

Although there weren’t as many people in attendance as we have had in the past, the evening was successful.  We had at least 10 club members helping with setup, ticket sales, refreshment sales and cleanup.  The club netted over $250.

Saturday Paddling on the Hackensack

On September 15, 2001 we will meet at the Club House at 9:30 am for informal paddling just like we do on Wednesdays.  This way we won’t have to rush to get off the river because of nightfall.

Equipment

The Slenders we acquired from the Girl Scouts need to be fixed so that we can use them for our paddling sessions.

Student Program

John Ponticorvo is working on a project through his school that will introduce high school students to canoeing.  It is part of Hudson County Project 2000.  The first part of the program will teach the students basic canoeing skills and water safety and the second part will emphasize the ecology of the wetlands and will involve water testing.  Wanda will provide instruction to the students at the Meadowlands Environmental Center in Lyndhurst.  Scheduled dates are September 13 and 20.

Hackensack River Festival, September 8, 2001

John Ponticorvo is making the final plans for the Festival this weekend.  He has received merchandise from Campmor, Eastern Mountain Sports and Ramsey Outdoor which we will raffle off Saturday afternoon after the races are over.  A cleanup crew has been hired so Wanda members won’t have to be involved with that.

Pontoon boat rides through the Meadowlands will be offered on the River Keeper’s boats starting at 11 am after the Marathon race has finished.
